Tectonic plates are backed up by so much evidence, including: continental drift, the distribution of earthquakes and volcanoes, symmetrical magnetic anomalies on the ocean floor, the presence of similar fossils and rocks on different continents, and the matching shapes of continents that were once part of a larger landmass.
